Accommodation for international students wanted!

Accommodation for international students wanted!

Become a host family!

Becoming a host family is a particularly exciting form of intercultural exchange. By spending time with an international guest, your family will learn about a new culture. At the same time, you contribute to making the time in Germany a very special one for your guest.

Guest from all over the world

Our international students come to Braunschweig from all over the world to improve their professional or language skills in our summer schools and to get to know Braunschweig, the region and Germany. This works particularly well if they are accommodated with host families or in shared flats during their stay in Germany, where they can practise their German in everyday life and get used to life in Germany.

For many international students, the summer schools also serve as preparation for studying at TU Braunschweig: they already get to know the city, the university and fellow students. When they return to Braunschweig at a later point in their studies, this knowledge makes it easier for them to start their studies abroad.

Of course, you can let us know in advance if you have any preferences regarding the student's mother tongue.

Why become a host family?

Hosting an international guest offers many advantages for families or shared flats:

  • Experiencing a new culture in their own everyday life
  • The improvement of language practice in English and possibly other foreign languages.

Families with senior school students in particular benefit from:

  • Preparing for their own stay abroad through the exchange with international students.
  • Getting to know the TU Braunschweig and other international students within the framework of own activities and those organised by the Summer School

What to expect when you host an international guest?

The first contact

We put you in contact with your guest early on so that you can get to know each other, e.g. by email or video chat, and make initial arrangements.

The rental contract

You arrange a rental contract with your guest independently. We recommend that you agree on an accommodation cost of 80-100 euros per week; other conditions are possible.

You can download a form for the rental contract and our suggestion for house rules here.

We are happy to assist you with all organisational matters.

The arrival

You pick up your guest after arrival - preferably from Braunschweig main station. However, you can also arrange another pick-up point (e.g. Hanover Airport). If you are unable to pick up your guest, please contact the Summer School team in advance.

In order to make it easier for you to get to know each other, we offer various leisure activities during the first week of the Summer School in which the host siblings or you as the host family can participate together with the international students.

The accommodation

Your guest should be accommodated in their own room with a bed (incl. pillow, blanket, bed linen), a table, a chair and a wardrobe or cupboard. In addition, your guest will need access to a bathroom and a kitchen. Students are responsible for their own meals. Individual arrangements for accommodation are of course possible.

The programme

During the Summer School, students attend our German and additional courses from 08:30 to 14:30 every day from Monday to Friday. In addition, we offer them joint activities on several afternoons per week and take all participants on excursions on Saturdays. Of course, you are free to spend the remaining time together with the students.

You would like to become a host family, but don't have time during the period requested?

TU Braunschweig is also always looking for host families for short stays of international students within the framework of other programmes. We will be happy to include you in our pool of host families and contact you as soon as we have a suitable request.

Three participants of the Summer School hold postcards with TU Braunschweig motifs in the camera.
The participants of our Summer Schools currently come mainly from the USA, Canada, Brazil, South Africa and Tanzania.
